PROFILE OF H.R.H  OBA MOSES ADELANI ADEGBOYEGA OLABODE (RN, FWACN, mni) ODUNFA II, OMOLA OF IMALA-LAND, OGUN STATE

In African societies, Traditional Rulers are custodian of the customs and tradition of their people. In addition they adjudicate in disputes between their subjects as well as protect their interests in whatever form. Modernization has further thrust upon traditional rulers the additional primary role of developing an attracting development to their domain. Not that this role was not there in the days of yore but it primary nowadays is so paramount as to overshadow other functions particularly in assessing the tenure of any monarch.

This situation had led to the ascension to thrones of highly educated and enlightened individuals particularly among the Yorubas with medical doctors, accountants, nurses, engineers etc mounting the throne of their forefathers for the good of their people. Such is the case in the ascension to the throne of Oba (Apostle) Moses Adelani Adegboyega Olabode, Odunfa II to the revered and ancient throne of Omola of Imala – land today.
Highly educated, enlightened and well traveled, both nationally and internationally, Oba Olabode perfectly fit the current trend of enlightened monarchy in African societies providing enlightened leadership for their people.

Born to the royal family of Mokowo/Mokorajo/Odunfa family on December 18, 1938 at Imala (Oke-Ogun) in the present Abeokuta North Local Government ,Ogun State.

His father was Chief Adigun Olabode,while the mother was Madam Awanatu Ojeyinka Olabode.

Kabiyesi Alayeluwa Oba Olabode started his primary education at the age of eight at

St. John’s Anglican School, Imala  in 1946 where he was till 1953.

He completed his primary education at the famous St.Peter’s primary school, Ake-Abeokuta in 1954.

From 1955 to 1957 he was at Anglican High School, Ibara- Abeokuta.

He was a classroom teacher between 1958 to 1960 from where

he proceeded to the school of Nursing at Eleyele, Ibadan and Abeokuta (1960-1964).

He is a man who visualise himself as a leader in the vanguard of the struggle for

better conditions of service and welfare for workers,

particularly those in the noble profession of Nursing.

He enrolled as a private student at the famous correspondence Rapid Result College,

London where he sat for the General Certificate of Education(G.C.E) Ordinary level and Advanced level.

Kabiyesi Alayeoluwa Oba Olabode began equipping himself for future labour leadership

by attending the United Labour Congress, Lagos in 1969,

and later travelled abroad to Department of Employment,

Industrial Relations School, London, United Kingdom in 1972,

the beginning of many overseas educational pursuits.

Kabiyesi Alayeoluwa Oba Olabode was at Afro-Asian Institute for Co-operative,

Social and Economic Studies, Tel Aviv, Israel(1982);

Central Trade Union School, Neratovice-Prague, Czechoslovakia(1984);

Center for Applied Studies in International Negotiation, Geneva(1985);

George Meaning Centre for Labour and Social Studies,Harvard University, USA(1992).

Oba Olabode was at Nigeria’s highest institution for Policy and Strategic Studies ,

The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru-Jos in 1986

a feat that place him in the highly elitist club of those with the acronym of (mni) behind their names.

Among his numerous academic and professional qualifications and awards are:

*Member, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (mni)

*Registered Nurse (RN)

*Fellow West African College of Nursing (FWACN)

*Florence Nightingale Award, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria

*Chartered Consultant, Consultant Institute, USA

*Meritorious Award, National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives .

Starting of as a Class Teacher between 1958 to 1960, Kabiyesi Alayeluwa Oba Olabode’s working career traversed the medical field to labour activism and unionism. He was a staff Nurse at Abeokuta and Ikeja General Hospitals between 1965 to 1967. He was also the first Executive General Secretary of National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives(NANNM) 1978-1993, and member, International council of nurses as well as member of the central working committee of Nigeria Labour Congress.

Among other positions held by Kabiyesi Alyeluwa Oba Olabode are Executive Director,

Labour Transport Services; Member, Jos University Teaching Hospital Management Board; Member, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria; Member,National Industrial Safety Council;National Adviser, Nigeria Private Nurses and Midwives Assocition among other strategic positions.

Presently, Kabiyesi Alayeluwa Oba Olabode is the President,

Healthcare Resourse Foundation of Nigeria NECAREF(An NGO)

Kabiyesi Alayeluwa Oba Olabode has attended several workshops,seminars

and conferences both home and abroad as well as participated in numerous

Trade Missions and delegations to various countries.

To his credit are numerous publications and papers on issues of

healthcare and labours relations too numerous to mention.

He is currently an Executive Member,

Nigeria Association of Chambers of Commerce,

Industry, Mines and Agriculture(NACCIMA);

President, Yewa Chamber of Commerce,Industry,

Mines and Agriculture(YECCIMA),3RD Vice President,

Ogun State council of Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (OGUNCCIMA).

He is also the chairman, Ideal Life construction Ltd; Chairman Labod Farms Ltd, and president health care Resources Foundation of Nigeria among others.
A highly religious and pious man, Oba Olabode was ordained an Apostle of the Holy Michael Church of the Lord in 1987.
No doubt a ruler of such impeccable credentials and experience would impact positively on his people during his reign. The combination of a caring professional nurse and a tested national and international labour unionist who have involved with government officials and politicians at the highest levels would ensure that.
He is married to Olori (Lady Evangelist) Christiana Abioye Olabode and

blessed with many children and grandchildren.
